I have been having to draw from photos which feels like cheating since they have already been reduced to 2D. Love drawing from real life and I like to think I can spot it when I see it. Not always but your stuff looks drawn from life. Do you do landscapes or people?
it aint cheating if you draw from photos, i still do that when i paint since i cant paint on the spot. so i would take a picture of a scene that inspires me (actually i still have lots of materials to transfer into painting). i can do a good piece of landscape but im still practicing drawing people from life. i will post some piece about that. yes i do a lot of live drawing in my moleskin.
I don’t think drawing from photos is cheating. When I’m snow-bound in the winter I often use photos, but when the weather is good I try to draw and paint from real life as often as I possibly can. There’s nothing wrong with doing a combination. Just remember that a photo will never capture the REAL color, especially in the shadows, and the camera sometimes distorts objects. But if you know that and compensate for it, you can get a decent sketch or even a decent painting.

I like this drawing, it looks simple but I suspect it is very carefully observed. You actually recorded each inch of this thing didn’t you?
