George Washington Bridge, NYC – Watercolour and Inktense
I came across a copy of Arthur Guptill’s “Drawing and Sketching in Pencil” first printed in 1922. On the front cover is a sketch of the Williamsburgh Bridge. This was eye-catching so I decided to look through my photos to see if I could get something similar to attempt as I didn’t have a view of this bridge.
This is the result. My view of the GWB is from the opposite side but has the same “Underneath Vista”. We sailed under the George Washington Bridge during last year’s trip to the city. Lovely memories.

Very cool drawing, Bob. I love Arthur Guptill, I’ve got his “Rendering in pen and ink”. Love his dry scientific language and serious demand from a pupil. Gonna look into this book.

Good for you, Nikira. I seem to have started something. John is awaiting his copy by post. Just one thing, however. The link, above is for a different book but there might not be much difference. Evidently a series of exercises and techniques were gathered together at the Pratt Institute

so that material could be collected for instructional purposes to aid students of architecture and art. At that time there was little in the way of using pencil as a tool and this was a effort to remedy this. I suspect that the different books, which have been reprinted, will contain a fair amount of overlap. It would be interesting to hear what you think.
PS Thanks for the nice comment.
