Back to basics – Watercolour
I sometimes tend to overdo things and try to include too much detail and too wide a variety of colour in some of my efforts. At an exhibition of Turner paintings, last month, I was reminded that his earlier stuff often was created with pencil overlaid with with simple washes from a limited palette – so here goes.
This tree stands next to a path near our house. I painted it using washes from cerulean blue, light red, yellow ochre, Ultramarine blue and burnt sienna all on top of pencil guidelines. Although its not that great it was fun to do and I wonder if most of the massive collection of paints etc., that I have acquired is really necessary.
Incidentally, this is not a pond in the foreground. Its a massive puddle. We do gets our fair share of rain in these parts.

Thank you Martin. I am always amazed at the different sky colours on offer if you look long enough. The trick is to get these onto the paper – still practising He He
