Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh – Pencil

This is a sketch prior to a full sized watercolour. It is the view as seen from Craigmillar Castle which was where Mary, Queen of Scots was staying when the plot to kill her husband was hatched. (1566). The Crags overlook Holyrood Park which is at the foot of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile in the section known as the Canongate. This is where Scotland’s Parliament is situated. These Crags form part of the ancient volcano including Arthur’s Seat which dominates the Edinburgh skyline. Its a lovely place to have right in the centre of the town and is very popular with locals and tourists. When I finish the watercolour I will post it here so others can compare and contrast between the two.
