I like your subway sketches. Never been on a New York subway, but reminds me of the Paris metro. Do the people know you are sketching them as you do it?
Thanks. The good thing about the subway in NY is that people don’t like to make eye contact so they often don’t look directly at you or notice what you are doing. Often they have there heads buried in a book, newspaper or magazine, or are just zoning out or dozing. When people do notice, they generally ignore me, although some get uncomfortable and even move away. The best are the folks that seem to actually strike a pose when they know they are being drawn. Only one time a subject got nasty with me, an elderly lady on a train in Queens about 10 years ago who called me a Bastard before she exited the train. And one time an obviously somewhat disturbed homeless person went on a paranoid rant against me, but that time I was actually drawing someone else and she just noticed.
