This piece uses a red 0.7mm gel pen , and a deep purple ZIG 0.25mm pigment multiliner . This piece is done in the style refered to as Horror Vacui, as it utilizes all open spaces with detail. It was a particularly challenging piece, I am pleased with the outcome, tho my neck would argue otherwise.

The image and colors are great, and thanks for teaching me about “Horror Vacui”. Is this really abhorrence of a vacuum though? It seems well thought out and balanced rather than driven by the need to fill in every nook with design.

Hey Dragon!!!- nice to hear from you!!!
Che Pablo – thank you for the nice feedback!
A bit more clarification, Horror Vacui,= fear of open spaces(as told to me by the talented, Danny Glix, who creates very authentic Horror Vacui artwork )It can refer to any work that fills the space of the medium. The terms is often used to describe old works that predate the named genera.
Here are the steps i utilized in this piece
The planning- having my eyes feel content with the weight and forms done in red ink. When i finished the red portion and was happy with the balance, i decided on which direction i would like my piece to be oriented, tall,or wide. Next i filled in the remaining white areas with a dense pattern that is based on floral abstractions and molecular particulate . I also included 3 hidden turtle ducks, Turtle-Ducks are hybrid animal characters i made up. I have been including them in much of my recent works, basically a further abstraction of the floral design. After completion, i had all the space filled so i added to the title (horror Vacui).

Took me awhile to locate all three turtle-ducks, Samurai… Going to spend the rest of my evening studying your other pieces. If there are no turtle-ducks there, I’m going to be really upset!
