Sunset on a clear day – Watercolour
This had been a crisp, clear day with very low temperatures. At this time of year, where I stay, the sun sets around 4.00pm and any residual cloud can sometimes be lit from underneath, just below the horizon. If one is lucky then you may see the warm colours of the sinking sun shine upwards under the clouds almost appearing to set them on fire. There is a short time where the colours are amazing and its easy to miss the spectacle. I was lucky, on this occasion. Whether I did the scene justice is for you to decide but I am still learning, even at my age, to watch out for nature’s displays like this.

Good of you to send this nice comment, SaraLynn but Mother Nature must take the credit here. We also get fantastic sunrises, when the right mixture of cloud and clear sky happens, as the sun is VERY low in the east. I was lucky enough to have a camera handy this morning to get these shots. A minute or two later it had gone:

My favourite was taken a few years ago just to the south of our village one January morning

Blazing skies of pink, gold, a thousand crimsons, yellows and orange shout from a backdrop of azure blue, green and purples. I rage and cry when it starts to disappear far to soon, and I have once nearly caused an auto accident admiring them.

Ah Greyseal. Poetically and astutely put. I too have almost caused an accident while being distracted by the brilliance that is sometimes on offer to us as we drive to and from work. Its hard to concentrate on the road when these fantastic colours are dangled in front of you. Although I have been trying to paint for some years I have only actually looked at what I paint for the last ten or so years. I have been amazed at the colours and how they actually mix together show when you concentrate and not glibly give a quick glance. I sometimes feel that I have wasted a large part of my life and must catch up quickly.

Uncle, I have tried but the colors flow into mud mixtures and I believe only transparent watercolors come close to the REAL sight. You have not wasted a thing, and you need not “catch up” because you sir, are already “there” as far as I am concerned. The same holds for Nikira, Ziza, Mattiasa, Plasma, Argetencourt and many others. All of you are most inspiring! Regards, a handshake
