Cairngorm Winter – Watercolour in a Watercolour Moleskine
The Cairngorm Mountain Range is part of the Cairngorm National Park and boasts some of the highest peaks in Scotland. This scene shows the view from the west side of Loch Morlich (just out of shot on the left) looking towards the summit of Cairngorm Mountain (4082ft high) This is the peak on the left. To the right is Braeriach (4252 ft high)while the space between is the Lairig Ghru pass which leads south towards Braemar about 35 miles away. Most of this area is covered by snow by this time of year and any trees have long lost their leaves. There is quite a thriving winter sports complex in the small town of Aviemore nearby wit skiing on Cairngorm itself. The managers of this centre must be praying for similar conditions to last winter which saw record falls of snow.

Not sure how I feel about winter scenes. Yours are gorgeous, to be sure, but I’m already tired of winter. We had our first snow fall here, about 1-1/2 feet and I slid down my driveway with the car and then couldn’t get back up since it’s long and about an 8% grade. I’m already wishing it were all over with again—-wishing my life away in the hope of another spring, I guess.
But keep posting those winter scenes, ’cause I like them so much better on paper than I do the real thing.

Oh Dear! Rose. Don’t wish your life away. We haven’t had anything like 1.5 ft of snow here although some is forecast for this afternoon and through till next week. Not enough of the stuff really falls here to cause us to be marooned at home – that’s tempting fate, isn’t it?

Ah Anne! Being Irish is just about the same as being Scottish. We are alike peoples. I love my time I have spent in Ireland and would go back there in an instant. Thank you for your great comments.
