Someday, he will sing at my funeral.
Yes, I know he is already dead. But he will sing, anyway.

Nice to see you back. Surely you are not thinking of leaving us permanently? This looks very like the late Irish singer, Luke Kelly

What a small world, Mhuire. I have seen Luke Kelly perform a few times and have been to visit his grave in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. There must be wonderful music in heaven right now. What is your favourite Luke Kelly song?

You are very lucky, Bob!!! I never saw him. I was just a child when he passed away, but I love irish music, I love the Dubliners, and I LOOOOVE Luke Kelly. My favourite song? It is very difficult!!! I like ” I Know my Love”, “The nightingale”, “Peggy Gordon”, “Spanish Lady”, “Thirty Foot Trailer”,… and a million more, more or less
Look at these two, specially the second one. Greeeeeat…

I want him to come back and sing the last one at my wake. Surely nobody will forget my last day in the world!!!

Two great clips. The “Foggy Dew” is very evocative. The lines, ” ‘Twas better to die ‘neath an Irish sky , Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar”. always stick in my mind when visiting Dublin where you can still see bullet marks in the surface of the post office which was at the centre of the 1916 “Rising”. As to “Maids when you’re young, never wed an old man” you would certainly be remembered. Strange how we think about our final journey. This is my choice – its not a Dubliner’s track but starts with a traditional Irish air (Magheracloone)

I want the haunting music and Violet Jacob’s great poem of “longing” to shed a few tears then followed by celebration of the pipes to change the mood and get them all dancing. Somehow I think I’ll be getting my song played well before yours
I have a book about Kelly, which I’m finished with http://www.flickr.com/photos/28475994@N00/5066689201/
and a pair of CD’s with songs from the man http://www.flickr.com/photos/28475994@N00/5066689093/
I would be happy to pass these onto you if you don’t already have them. I got the CD’s to obtain Luke Kelly’s version of P. Kavanagh’s “On Raglan Road” which is my favourite of his efforts

Now I quite understand you might not wish to share an address so I can send this but perhaps they could be sent to a local post office or similar. See what you think. You can get me at

It is a long video, but there are a lot of beautiful songs from my land, and from Cuba (habaneras) And around minute 50 it begins Silvia Perez Cruz. I want HER at my last goodbye too. I want her to sing the third song, “Vestida de nit” (That’s “Dressed of night” or maybe “Night dressed”?) I will translate the lyrics for you someday, it is very poetic. And I love the way she sings the second song “Veinte años” or “Twenty years”. She is magic…
Mhuire 3:24 pm on October 15, 2010 | #
Sorry. “Vestida de nit” it’s not the third song. The third song is “Habaneras de Cadiz”, and “Vestida de Nit” is the fourth she sings, around minute 01:08:30
