Lake Pukaki, New Zealand – Gouache in a Watercolour Moleskine
This is from a photograph sent from New Zealand where my youngest son now lives. He has sent many such scenes and I thought that I would try one using the techniques that the late Bob Ross used ie rendering the mountains with a palette knife. This, as it turned out, is not as easy as it looks but I think this is a fair attempt for a first go. I wonder if the locals, near Canterbury would recognise the place?

Another jewel Bob, but it should be upside-down if it’s from NZ.

Excellent Bob. I love it. I bet your son would be proud of it. Bob Ross is very popular over here in the states. When I was a kid I used to watch him sometimes when I had nothing to do around the house, lol.

Those mountains are fabulous. The shapes and shadows are perfection.
But I do wonder how they stay on the Earth in NZ since they are always upside-down. LOL

Ah Arqetancourt. Es usted muy amable con tus comentarios. Gracias.
Ah Arqetancourt. You are so kind with your comments. Thank you.
Rose and Ziza – Oh dear – upside down. The old ones are the best eh?
If this was true I would be there myself to encourage my hair to grow outwards.
Thank you also for your supportive comments
Thank you Kirby. Interesting to hear that Bob Ross’s programmes are still going strong. I was actually watching one when I logged onto your comment on my itouch. They put these out around 9.00am and I watch them whilst having a leisurely breakfast – OK for us old retired guys eh?

Beautiful mountains, I like blue shadows. Interesting, it has sharp peaks, like in Europe. American mountains are rounded, at list Adirondacks. I like Bob Ross’s technique, watched him, whenever saw on TV, but find his work very indifferent, no emotion.

Thanks Nikira. The shape of the mountains is probably to do with their age. NZ ones are relatively “New” and the seismic nature of the place (parts are on the Pacific “ring of fire”) will ensure they are continuing to “grow” – a bit like the Himalayas which are being pushed ever upwards by the Indian Continent travelling northwards. American mountains are, mainly, rounded (except for your Rocky Mountains which are on the ring of fire). These rounded shapes are exactly like the Scottish Mountains and, wait for it, originally were joined to America before the continental plates drifted apart. Nice to know we share this link with our American Cousins.
