This was done the same day I started my new Moly and in the same place, but it was painted on a Bockingford pale beige tinted watercolor paper. I like the lightly tinted paper instead of stark white for flowers. They are from left to right: California poppy, lupine, scarlet paintbrush, pennyroyal.

Wow, what a beauty! I like this stained paper. In my first college we use to stain watercolor paper with strong tea for special effects. I should try this paper too. It may take white highlights interesting.

Nikira, I like the Bockingford stained watercolor papers. It comes in very soft colors, including a very pale green, blue, eggshell(beige) and gray. It’s heavy enough for watercolor washes, although it won’t take a whole lot of scrubbing. For most of my larger plant studies I use either the pale green (on which reds and pink zing) or the pale blue (on which the yellows zing)and the eggshell. I think it’s a paper made in England. If you try it, let me know how you like it.

PS: I have used the the gray for white flowers, and they look gorgeous on that background.

I saw this just before we left for a few days holiday and vowed to make a comment when we returned. This is stunning. I think one of your best efforts ever on Skineart. It is so crisp and clear. I have a sewed tapestry, done by my mother, who produced stuff like this. She would have loved to have gotten her hands on this. Thank you for the bright clear images. Incidentally, you are correct. Bockingford paper is made in England. You can see your paper on this link :

Thanks for your kind comments everyone! Much appreciated.
Bob, most of the flowers I’ve posted are just sketches and field notes. The reason this is my best effort ever, I think, is because this is a finished painting. I’ve never posted a finished piece before, but these sell very well around here. I’ve actually painted about 15 new ones this spring, but I’m thinking of not selling any of them because I want to do an exhibit at our local museum of the flowers in this area, from early spring into fall and even winter with cones and lichens and dried grasses. It will be a long project and probably take me three our four years. I’ve already noticed that when everything blooms at once, I can only do so many paintings and then I have to wait until next year to continue. But I think it would be fun to have all the seasons together in one exhibit, and the museum is willing. So we shall see what happens next.
