Deadly Lines – Pen and Coloured Pencil in a small Watercolour Moleskine
A quick entry for this month’s Challenge, this shows a local “level crossing” in the village of Kirknewton, about 5 miles from our house. The UK has many of these unmanned crossings where barriers automatically descend to stop pedestrians and vehicles crossing when trains go through. This doesn’t always work as there have been a few accidents, here, over the years some of which have proved fatal. Despite protests authorities continue to argue that these devices are safe. Once a notice appeared on a level crossing which said, “Beware of trains, going both ways at once”. ’nuff said!

I like this one a lot!

This is an amazingly good drawing of something I would never even consider as a drawing subject. The perspective is excellent and so is the feeling of distance.
In the USA there would be so many lawsuits over something like this that the authorities would quickly fix it and try to make it foolproof even for idiots. Of course, sometimes I think they “safety” us to death here, as though we aren’t adults who can think for ourselves and make logical decisions.

You’re right, roseindigo. We are sufficiently warned to take the plastic off of the frozen pizza before baking.
The foreground is bold, a warning of danger. As the tracks fade away, the drama has ended. I like it!

Thank you Peeta, Rose and Susan. I’m with you on the “safety” nonsense. We are also experiencing an increase in lawyers offering to sue for tiny reasons. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

Good news, Nikira. Hope you enjoy trying this technique.
