New Bedford, Massachusetts. In the mid 1800′s this was the epicenter of the whaling industry. The sailing ship Pequod set sail from New Bedford, starting its adventure with the great white leviathan, Moby Dick.

This is just beautiful Susan. I’m probably one of the few people who not only got through that book “Moby Dick”, but liked it.

Ah the great white whale, Captain Ahab, Ishmael, Nantucket Sleigh Rides etc. Brings back memories of Gregory Peck (I found Herman Melville’s book VERY hard to read). Charming sketch Susan.

(I was actually looking for a cartoon I thought I had a copy of. It shows Ahab and the first mate on board the Pequod looking at a huge white whale, standing on its tail with its tongue sticking out. The mate says to Ahab, “Methinks that great white whale be tormenting thee, Cap’n” )

Thanks, you guys. I was born in Boston and love going for visits. The rugged coastline is really beautiful.
