Sunrise on a stormy day – Ink in a Watercolour Moleskine
I cannot do justice to the view, this morning, from my studio window. We often get vivid red tones mixed up with dark clouds as the rising sun sweeps over Edinburgh. This is my humble effort trying to show this. The great English painter, John Constable wrote, in 1821, “Skies must and always with me make an effectual part of the composition”. The sky IS the composition in this effort with the buildings, hills and foreground merely hinted at. Hope this works.

This is really wonderful. I love the lines and the sky.
I’m guessing you don’t mean Edingburgh in Scotland?

Thank you Andrea. This is indeed Edinburgh in Scotland and this is my normal view with Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags in the centre/right. What a difference a day makes. Everything today is blanketed in snow and visibility terminates, in a sea of white, about 25 feet from my window. Easier to paint, though

I love the sky in this one…it has a wonderful sense of illumination and the prelude to daybreak.

Both the sky and the land are spectacular! I really like the way you outlined the hills. It has a graphic feel, like a poster design from another era. Great view you have, Bob!

Thank you everyone for such marvellous feedback. The crazy thing is, when I started this one it seemed to be going pear-shaped. I think the beauty of doing stuff for this site, regularly, has meant I now tend to persevere with things and most usually turn out OK. What DOES help is the support people like you all send me which encourages me to try harder. Thank you once again. Bob
