Noticed this on flickr but before I commented here it is. Its really nice – reminiscent of the Amnesty International symbol. You mention “An experiment”. Are you using different techniques?
it’s very lovely, this.
I am especially impressed with the dimensions, say, about
the left foot, and the wax “halo”, or drippings near the top –
so, for you what part is the experiment ?
and your technique – you start by applying imagination,
pencil and pigments to a fresh Moleskine page ?
any Masque ?
have you other worked the other way ? maybe by
starting with a very dense wash on the page, and then
bleaching details out, back to Moleskine white ?
I’m very tempted to try the dense wash, and then to
use full-strength household bleach from the laundry
loaded into a technical pen. Would that be disaster ?
(likely the bleach would continue to slowly destruct
the paper ?)
in any case, your experiment is very successful –
evokes a lot of emotion.
The experimental part is the aura, or halo of the flame. I’d like to draw this again with less emphesis on the flame and candle. Most emphasis on the glow itself.
j…The bleach sounds very interesting. I’ve seen nice results from this technique but don’t know anything about it, except to wear old clothes.
Thanks, you guys!
