Experimental Snow scene – Watercolour and Ink in a Watercolour Moleskine
Although not my best of efforts this pleases me in another way in as much as I videoed the whole thing from start to finish only having short breaks, in the filming, to allow parts to dry. The video lasts for 26 minutes, in eight parts, and is intended to show folks, who have access to Skype how I go about painting something like this. Skype allows me to share my screen, and hence the video, with others and a Web Cam is not required as you should be able to see what I am showing and you can comment with the Skype text service. Bob is great!!!. I’ve rated five stars on youtube. Thank you for sharing. Although I do not understand English a picture is worth a thousand words.

I’ve been away for awhile, mostly just moving and other things but it’s good to see a familiar face. I love snow not just in painting but on film as well. It brings out the realism and adds elegance both. I like this, esp. as I zoomed in and looked at the larger version, there’s just more there to see. I think snow is like negative space. Most of us draw “positive space” instead. I wonder if I could do snow as just as big a deal as the tree–Kind of hard, but it’s like those excercises where they have you draw upside down.
I’ve missed everyone. I moved, and then I got a job, and then I didn’t like it. Kind of crazy. I do have a printer/scanner. But I’m such a voyeur.
I saw a post about negative comments. When you think about it I’m surprised this hasn’t come up before now. People are pretty supportive. Part of the thing is that in some classes or online intense criticism and rude remarks are kind of the norm. Here I think blanket enthusiasm is to the point. I guess a couple times I’ve said something to you, Bob, I rememeber I thought you should mix up the perspective and have things closer and further away, but I really would say those sorts of suggestions–I know you a little better and I guess I would never say anything hurtful. Maybe it should say something at the top of the site about not making negative comments for the benefit of newbies wandering in. I hope they can get these comments erased because it’s not who we are here.

Really it seems in bad form to criticize someone who doesn’t say that they welcome it. Don’t you think?

Nuria.
Nuria. I have an apology to make. I thought you could understand English which is why I reply mostly in that. I sometime use the translation sites but know that the meaning of a message can be lost in the translation. Would you prefer for me to try to respond by also using the translation site? I am really grateful that you take the time to let me know what you think about my stuff.

Hi Sophie
Good to hear from you. Was wondering what had happened to you. If you look at my recent posts, since the turn of the year, you will see that I made a vow to try to post at least one snow scene a day until I finished a Christmas Moleskine. Have been fairly successful but am finding subject matter hard. Anyway, only nine more to go then I can relax. Now that you have a printer and scanner there is no escape at your end. I am looking forward to seeing some of your work on skineart but, should you not wish to do this, you can always send me a “preview”.
The thread concerning negative comments was followed by a lot of other supportive ones and this seemed to air a lot of points. I don’t worry about such things as I am too old and thick skinned to be bothered although I DO KNOW you would never say any destructive stuff. I agree with your second statement entirely.
Please look at the link in the notes which accompany this posting. Everyone I speak to gets the same message from me. I am very keen to establish more links with like minded folk to use different methods of communication. If you sign up for Skype (its free) then you can be instantly in touch. This depends on your computer speed etc but the Skype web site will give details. Its best if you use a web camera and microphone so you can talk and see but this is not necessary. If you are on Skype then you will be able to see and hear what I am doing (such as sketching/drawing or just talking). There is a text service which allows messages to be sent instantly so you could comment.
Anyway, good to hear from you and keep posting
Bob

—o–
(English-Inglés):
Bob, you should not apologize to me, please. You’re very kind!.
Yes, I always have to be translated messages with the google translator because I do not understand English. (I speak very little English). For me it easier if you put the translation of your messages in Spanish.
(English and Spanish together, and learn some phrases and / or English word).
And I encourage you also to comment on my work. Any criticism, if constructive, is also welcome. ^^

I think I’ll work on the scanner first. I don’t nec. have many things on Moleskine paper (but a couple to start with). I don’t actually love what I’ll be sending (I’m going to sit down and get it together this weekend). I’ll call it: Letting go of control. Then if I do something showstopping (which does happen sometimes) that would be fine but I don’t have to worry about being perfect because that dream has already flown….One thing I remember that you did was a couple of red squirrels in a snowy tree. Maybe you could do some imagined animal thing. Red cardinals and holly berries and shit like that. (I’m not invested in it, It just seems like an ambitious project you’re involved in.) You probably aren’t aware (I read your bio) that I just started teaching myself the guitar as well. I bought a vintage one for not much at all, it’s a classical acoustic and handmade. I had some problems finding the right website and online lessons. Then the maintenance guy for my apartment sat down and played for me for about 45 minutes and that was helpful (a pay it forward event if ever there was one). I finally got the right information about tabs and notes and cords to get started. I can play 3 chords going back and forth now and I can play much of “The Pink Panther” and the theme from “MASH” and I can tune it as well. Not much I guess but starting is the hardest part I believe. I do want to play a couple of classical songs like “Shindler’s List” and “O Tannenbaum” but I am really using this instrument to learn more pop songs and then switch to a regular acoustic and an electric. I seem to be sticking with it. Maybe I can start a rock band with post adolescent women. Maybe I should graduate from the Pink Panther first. I intend to tackle “Hallelujah” soon, with singing too. I don’t know if I can sing and I want to find out. I tend to think people who can sing have just naturally always done so….You know who I miss here is Ghost school. I loved his work a lot. People here have many different gifts. I think Susan and Mattias are really professionally competent on a grand scale, but almost everyone has something cool going on. I wonder if the rude ones were actually contributors. That could be part of it, most of the work here, the comments come from the other artists and not so much the general public….This is a NICE SPACE, I think safe and full of encouragement. Probably if a jerk threw a rock at an artist HERE, he’d be pelted by 10 rocks from other people who are chasing him away.
