Nice sketch, lovely mug. You use Talens Rembrand or van Gogh?

Thanks Nuria and Rene.
Rene, I use both Rembrandt and Van Gogh. In this one I used Schmincke Horadam as well (as you could guess from the pic itself. Rembrandt is my absolute favourite (“the colors are slightly darker and more intense than other brands, giving the whole palette a sense of weight and depth” – meaning they contain more generous pigment share in the paints than other brands – see here: http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/pigmt2.html#rembrandt )! I have only 2×12 hal-pan sets and use them when I need intense or transparent colours or both. I didn’t have a honour to use more expensive ones like Old Holland, Art Spectrum or Bloxx, but so far I’ve used WN, Schmincke and Talens (in the past also L&B) and among them Rembrandt rules.
As to cheaper ones Van Gogh beats Cotman by a large margin. Cotman is a bit muddy and is just a bit better than school stuff. However, I just ordered a set of 45 with complete range of their palette (40 + 5 most frequently used as an extra). Sometimes I’m lazy to mix colours and would use their ready made shades. I also ordered 12 WN 5 ml tube set of WN Artists’ which are reasonably prised and well valued among artists http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/pigmt2.html#winsornewton .
My father mostly used Talens and since I spent many years in NL it is only logical that my preference is to follow family tradition and loyalty to my beloved queen Beatrix!

… I also bought Russian White Nights and would say that 5/12 are reasonably acceptable. However, to peal off ALU foil, from the pans, is next to impossible and you are bound to fight the small pieces of them in your paintings. Hardly recommendable, but you get bulk of paint for low price…

Everything one needs for a nice painting. Food, paint and (Rosemary) brushes, Sketchbook and – a wee bit talent.

Ziza, thanks for the description. You certainly experimented a lot.
So far I used Talens van Gogh, which suits my needs, but I decided to replace my half pans with Rembrandt whenever they are finished.
I use two sets, a travel set of 12, and more complete set of 24. I mostly use the travel set as I often draw and paint outdoors. For my travel set see http://www.flickr.com/photos/renefijten/3352357304/in/set-72157609646446670/.
I also have 12pc Cotman, but I don’t use it, more out of habit than decision.
