Another view from my window – Snow in the early evening of St Nicolas day 19-12-09 (according to Julian/Orthodox calendar).
Rene, that’s another one for your friend. What you see is about 500 years old Latin Bridge – the place where, by assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the World War I started 95.5 years ago.

Best wishes for the new year, Ziza, and for all other skinnies who read this. I will send the drawing to my friend Tasja. This bridge symbolises the 20th century, here the first and the last of the european wars started.

Dear friends, thank you and a very happy New Year to you all!
The snow is done by sprinkling deep blue and black watercolours first (over already done watercolour painting). Next: I splattered white gouache over everything. I placed newspapers to protect the environment but, as it turned out, it wasn’t enough. The whole place was covered in white “snowflakes” (to great dissatisfaction of my wife) so I had to clean it up, which took nearly as long as the time needed to produce the painting itself.
For the sake of truth, the bridge only witnessed the beginning of the World War I which was not the first European war of the century (there were 2 Balkan wars before it). For the last European war – it started in places other than Sarajevo, but first victim in Sarajevo was Suada Dilberovic and she was indeed killed by sniper fire on another bridge (about 2 km/6 bridges downstream). However, this particular bridge did witness many wars…
