This is also from a photo and I had tons of fun doing the bricks with a small flat brush. Seems watercolor is ideal for that because you get the variation in color so easily, just like bricks have. Here you can see what is meant by “arrested state of decay” where they used some sort of caulking on the window panes instead of replacing them.

This makes me curious to go inside. What is beyond the doors?

I too enjoy painting bricks. They add such character to a building. I’ve driven folk to distraction studying the different ways they have been laid. The classic was in Amsterdam where small bricks are laid in – “Flemish bond” what else!

Thanks for all your kind comments. I really don’t recall what is beyond those doors, but it may have been some sort of store at one time. Bob, I know what you mean about studying the way bricks have been laid. I haven’t studied it to distraction, but I certainly enjoy looking at the patterns when I run across them. It’s a wonder to me what a good mason can do with bricks.
I did enjoy painting these. It was so much fun and quite simple if you use very light pencil lines to guide a flat brush across the paper.
