My little dog and I climbed a bit higher to get away from the tourist horde around the bridge which is to the right of this picture, and we found a comfortable rock where we sat in the sun and painted this. It’s a creek coming out of Lake Sabrina at over 9,000 feet in elevation.

Beautiful balance and a bit melanchollic.

Again, a great scene from your holiday. Must be good fun to look back on – better than photographs since you must have spent some time doing this.

Bob, generally I think sketches from travels are so much better than any photo could ever be, because when you sketch you have to “see” and be involved much more than with a camera. When I look at this one I remember exactly where I was, how difficult the climb was, how hard the rock that I was sitting on was, the feeling of the warm sun, the way my paints slipped off the rock and had to be retrieved, the sounds I heard, and even my dog lying by my feet. Personally I think sketches bring memories back much more than photos do, which is why I love to do this even when they don’t turn out particularly well.
