this butterfly visited my room two weeks ago and i was able to put it on my hands, it was very tame. so i took a whole bunch of beautiful photos and i just needed to do a painting of it.

it’s all watercolor. it took a while to get the transitions. many layers, a lot of water.

I love the texture of the paper you used which is visible here. What brand of paper is this? It seems I’m always trying out various papers to see what watercolor will do on it, and it’s surprising how different papers accept watercolors in various ways. I love the way this paper seems to have kept the brightness of the colors with just a bit of the texture showing through.

my favorite brand is canson, 140 lbs. best one without paper texture is ‘fontenay’, i had some test sheets from a shop. i still have other ones i have yet to test.
