The Water of Leith, near Balerno – (Great) Pencil(s) in a Moleskine Sketchbook
With a bit of luck this will be my 200th post on Skineart and I would like take this opportunity to offer some thanks to you as well as letting you know how I found these great pencils. Special thanks to Leo for keeping this website running.
I never thought that I would have the remotest amount of perseverance to paint and sketch on such a regular basis and one of the good things about this site is the fantastic feedback from everyone. This has encouraged me to continue over the past months. I am delighted that you folks take the time to comment on the stuff I send in and feel that I have made many new friends. People seem to go out of their way to be positive, in their feedback and no one ever seems to be damning or offers harsh criticism – I am fond of helping new members understand this. Its so encouraging. I am in regular contact with some of you and we discuss a plethora of things apart from art. I email groups in The States and Europe regularly and have just started using my web cam to have conversations with “John” in America’s mid west, using Skype. John also contributes to Face book where some of you participate. He, in fact, told me about “Palamino” pencils recently and I sent to California for a few which I used for this sketch. He had described using these as, “A very sensual experience”. I think they are great! They have a very “silky” feel and they just glide over the page. They can be found at:

I would never have found out about these pencils if Skineart had passed me by. Incidentally, this also goes for water brushes, different types of watercolour pencils, gel pens, carbon pens, painting with different inks et all. Thank you all for many great suggestions.
As you all know I am fond of describing places in my country but have learned much, in return, from my contact with others across the globe and just thought you might like to know how grateful I am.
Now, today’s lesson! The Water of Leith runs from the Pentland Hills through Edinburgh to the Leith district lying on the Firth of Forth. A few years ago a pathway was constructed so that walkers and cyclists could follow the river with ease. Margaret and I walked about a third of the distance, about seven miles, last week and this sketch is from the village of Balerno just next to the start. Its a great place to enjoy a wee stroll without too much effort. All the best – Bob.

Bob, congratulations on 200 post. I am also very thankful to Leo for maintaining this fantastic site, where its so much fun to learn, enjoy and communicate with amazing people all over the world. My life changed because of that. And I want to thank you, Bob, for being here, for your posts and descriptions. I introduced you to my friends and even some of them not artists but they really love your art (my dear friend Lena from Russia) and enjoy your writing. And I like this drawing very much, especially relationships between color of the page with pencil and touch of white.

BTW, where were you on october 13 to comment on my post. I really expected you to say something, or were you so dissapointed with how I sketched you in the “hall of fame of the skineart”? With no comments it turned to a “hole of fame”!!!

Congratulations Bob! 200 works of art is quite a collection and certainly a lot of time. We have enjoyed looking at all of them and are delighted that you have so generously shared them with us.

This is the first opportunity I’ve had to reply to these kind messages. It appears that my web browser no longer wants to cooperate and I’ve had days trying to figure out why Skineart was being so cruel to me. I’ve even been pestering Leo and will get back to him with the good news that I am operational again (Or should that read “bad news”.
Nikira, Rose & Nuria – These are very kind words and I really appreciate them. I am glad that Nikira, in particular, gets lots of self-fulfilment from this site. I know I do. Rose, of course, had lots of difficulties in the early days and will appreciate how frustrating the past few days have been for me. You will soon catch me up, Rose, – I hope you do as you botanical studies are superb! Nuria. Your recent words have been most welcome and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say how much we are looking forward to more of your posts.
You will notice I’ve left out Ziza. This is because I did not intentionally “forget” to comment on his post – the one with the caricatures. Firstly, thanks for the congratulations, above, and NOW I am going to comment on YOUR post however belatedly.

(Esp):
Muchas gracias Bob. También se nota que me aprecias. Me has alegrado el día y eso era difícil porque también tengo problemas informáticos con esta página web. No se carga la página. He probado con varios navegadores y en varias horas del día. No quería moletar a Leo.
Nuria

Thank you very much Bob. Also note that I appreciate. I have rejoiced the day and that was difficult because I also have computer problems with this website. Not load the page. I have tested with several browsers and several hours a day. Muller did not want Leo. I uploaded 13 works but has not yet posted any anywhere. Some have already passed the requisite 72 hours, I think. Do you have reached the web Leo?. Please, I already commented that I am eating my nails … (Just kidding).
Please Leo, Help me! … Because if the computer problems I go back today to see if anyone is up to the web.

Nuria – Sorry to hear you too are experiencing difficulties. If you go to “forums” then start a “New Thread” and ask Leo to investigate perhaps things will gets sorted out. Let me know how you get on – Bob
Nuria – Lamentamos saber que también están experimentando dificultades. Si usted va a “foros” y luego iniciar un “nuevo hilo” y le piden a Leo a investigar tal vez las cosas se consigue resolver. Avísame cómo te va – Bob
